Health / Other Testing

     We believe that health testing of our breeding dogs is very important. With the technology we have we are able to swab the dogs cheek and within a matter of weeks we know if our dogs carry any of the genes responsible for increased risk of nearly 200+ diseases.  We currently work with a couple different DNA testing companies to reduce our risk of introducing genetic problems. We will test a specific breeding pair or puppy upon request once a deposit has been obtained. 

     Our Veterinarian does full exams on each of our dogs and there are 2 people in my household that are in the vet medicine occupation that do daily walk through of all the dogs and once a month we do complete physical exams including heart and eyes, temperature etc. 

      For many years breeders have relied on X-rays for determining joint health and making pairing decisions, we  do not believe these scans to be the end all measure of joint health. We have been studding the hip dysplasia issue and feel that the puppies environment makes so much of a difference in the risk of developing HD and other joint issues that we are not completely confident that a preliminary or even a certification is enough to guarantee a decreased risk of joint problems. We recommend age appropriate exercise and body condition for the best risk management of joint health. 

We do extensive temperament testing on our puppies to ensure our babies go to the best fitting home for them. 

We work with puppies from the time they start toddling around. The AKC offers the Canine Good Citizen Certificate and we work with the puppies on all 10 items that are included in this test. The puppy will need continued training once with there new family and once the family thinks they are proficient in all 10 items they can take the CGC test. All puppies will have  extensive socialization and stimulation.
